WE HAVE OUR COUNTRY BACK!

I am administering this site for Santa Fe Grassroots for Obama volunteers and friends. Now that the election is over, the topics have broadened to local community events. I encourage each of you to find your passion and make it happen by volunteering and getting others involved. If you'd like to share and spread your volunteer interests, write something up and I'll post it. Along those lines, you'll find things here now that I am personally passionate about. So please join me! My best, Gaye Pollitt

Time is running out! Make calls for South Dakota's June 3rd primary.

A MESSAGE FROM SEAN STIMMEL TO GRASSROOTS:
The region that I was assigned in South Dakota is where Hillary counts on winning to win the state. But, with your help, we might win the ENTIRE state for Obama. You can help:

Make phone calls to South Dakota.

  • Go to Obama's website and make calls from there.
  • Call my special list. This is the phoning option I would love for you to select because these calls will count toward my "quota"! Please contact me for instructions on how to make these calls. My e-mail & phone numbers are below.

Thanks you for everything you have and will do for this campaign. It is your wonderful outreach that has made this campaign what it is. Let's make this last state a symbolic state. Obama came in with a bang, so let's end this primary season with a bang and win South Dakota and Montana!!!

Fired up, and going
Sean Stimmel

Let's send Barack & Michelle & the girls to the White House. YES, WE CAN!

Dear Grassrooters,

Work as hard as you can! We absolutely must send Barack & Michelle to The White House! This country has the rarest opportunity in our Nation's history and we've got to do everything in our power to make it happen!

Michelle Obama addressed a crowd of supporters in Albuquerque yesterday afternoon. As much as I liked her before, she blew me away, exceeded my expectations, and made me so proud to be supporting BOTH the Obamas!

Michelle is smart, funny, warm, informed, eloquently spoken, composed, brilliant, (did I mention funny?), compassionate, quick... I cannot think of enough good words to describe her.
She spoke for 30 or 40 minutes from the heart with no notes, telling us about the campaign from her perspective. Then she enthusiastically & unflinchingly answered questions for at least 30 more minutes. And then she "walked" the edge of the circle, shaking hands, autographing our-very-own-Freddie Johnson's Dreams From My Father (which now sports both Barack and Michelle's signatures!), graciously accepting praise and adulation along the way.
Many of our Santa Fe Grassroots group were there. I have no doubt they join me in saying it was a heart-warming, sobering, and exciting event!
Here are a few photos. More are included in our slide show at the bottom of the right column. Gaye

Unofficial estimate -- at least 75 of you became certified Voter Registration Agents on Tuesday, 5/27.

The tradition lives on! You showed up in unexpected high numbers and displayed your usual amount of high energy! You impressed and delighted our Obama National Campaign Field Organizers, Alex & John, whose smiles expressed their appreciation even louder than their "thank yous."

The three officials from the New Mexico Secretary of State's office who were there on personal time to train the jam-packed room were extremely well organized and did a super job of conducting the evening. We thank them for their professionalism and interest.

If you were unable to attend last night but have any interest in registering new voters, you can still become a Voter Registration Agent and join Alex & John's well planned, vigorous registration drive in Santa Fe.

Call either of them for details on how to proceed & check back on this weblog for updates.

This is an especially powerful way to prepare for the General Election.

Send us your stories about the voter registering you do -- where you go, how it goes. If you have a digital camera, take photos and email them to Kristin and me if you can! (Our email addresses are in the CONTACT box on the right.)

Voter registration OUTREACH to pivotal Santa Fe communities

New Mexico is a swing state, and our outreach to pivotal communities could help Barack win New Mexico in November!

Our original list of communities has grown to include Native Americans, Hispanics, seniors, students and first-time voters, veterans, business leaders, the LGBT community, environmentalists, artists, educators, independent voters, and organized labor. And, as we progress, this list may grow, depending our your own special connections and interests.

Now's the time for us to get organized around this great idea with our voter registration efforts.

Recently, Yasmine Amir Moez volunteered to be the overall coordinator for the Outreach teams. She will recruit Grassroots volunteers to head up efforts within these specific communities and will also contact those who have expressed interest in being coordinators.

Please contact Yasmine directly if you want to join this effort.

Grassroots, we need to do absolutely everything we can to help put Barack over the top. Please call Kentucky voters TODAY!

Right now, thousands of people in Kentucky** are thinking seriously about what they're looking for from our next president -- and one voice could sway their decision. We're asking you to be that voice.

Call voters in Kentucky and encourage them to vote for Barack. Let's help avoid a repeat of West Virgina: http://my.barackobama.com/callnow

We've come a long way together in this campaign, and Tuesday could be an unmistakable signal -- to the media, the superdelegates, and everyone watching this election all across the country -- that the people have spoken, and America is ready for change: change we can believe in!

Especially if you've never made calls before...this is the best time to start!

Here's how it works:
When you log in, you'll get a list of 25 names that only you will receive. (If you don't have a My.BarackObama account, creating one is fast and easy.)

Click on a name, make a call, and you'll be led through a simple script, question by question.

If you wish, you can even print your numbers and the script and enter your results back into the system later. Get started making a difference now! Yes, you can!

**Oregon votes entirely by mail, so calling their voters will not be as effective as calling Kentucky voters.

We registered voters May 10th in Albuquerque. Santa Fe is next!

Saturday (May 10) a merry group of seven Santa Fe “Grassrooters” went to Albuquerque to be part of Obama’s 50-state kickoff in 100 major cities for the November general election. This VR drive is serious business and worth every trickle of effort we put into it. If we do it right, we will help Barack win New Mexico and, in concert with with our Grassroots counterparts across the country, we'll elect him to be our next POTUS (President of the United States)!

So, we joined about 50 other volunteers from Albuquerque for training at 9 am at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Hall. At 10 o’clock, we dispersed to various locations around the city. Over the next few hours, the volunteers registered approximately 150 people total. The Santa Fe contingent gained some valuable insights into the process and some ideas for how to organize our own upcoming voter registration days in Santa Fe.

Obama Policy Discussion Group had a lively kickoff. Join them for the next meeting!

We aim to become better informed on Obama’s position on issues and policies and, thus, be better able to tell friends and voters why Barack deserves their vote.

To that end, Santa Fe Grassroots held their first Obama policy discussion group on Monday, May 12. It was hosted by one of our volunteers in her home. The group discussed The Audacity of Hope, focusing on chapters 3, 5, 6 and 8.

This group will meet again on June 9th. Other groups may also form, depending upon interest. Find out how you can join by calling Martha Romero at 820-6937.
